The gruesome killing of Mamita Meher, a 24-year-old lady teacher in Mahaling, Kalahandi, has once again put the spotlight on rising incidence of violence against women in Odisha. There has been statewide outrage and protests, but little attention is being paid to the larger societal factors responsible for the worsening trend in crimes against women.
