Earlier this month, the Indian government secured parliamentary passage for three controversial legislations on the farm sector. Critics say the move will ruin the farm economy, destroy rural livelihoods and threaten food security of our people. Proponents of the changes argue these will augment farmers’ incomes, eliminate exploitative intermediaries and aid economic progress. In this webinar, we ask a panel of experts to tell us where does the truth lie.
The panel included Prof Tara Nair of Gujarat Institute of Development Research, Ahmedabad, Odisha farmer leader Akshaya Kumar, Rural Affairs Editor of Indian Express Harish Damodaran, Dr Himanshu, associate professor of economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Dr Mekhala Krishnamurthy who leads the State Capa city Initiative of New Delhi-based Centre for Policy Research.
